Cepheid studies. III - Energy changes in the beat Cepheid U Trianguli Australis
Four hundred and eighty-one UBVRI observations of the beat Cepheid U TrAobtained in the 1977 season are reported. The V luminosities have beenFourier analyzed to provide both improved estimates for the periods, andamplitude and phase values for the double-mode Fourier terms. Acomparison with extensive observations made 18 years ago indicates thatthere has been a redistribution of pulsation energy in favor of thefirst overtone at the expense of the fundamental. It is postulated thatthis is not due to mode-switching, but rather to the intermode couplingthat exists between the two pulsations.
